My 2017 summer has started off with a bang! I have already been to Lava Hot Springs with some girlfriends, Disneyland with my family, and just recently got back from a music festival in Midway, UT. The festival was called Bonanza, it was a mix of young millennial ravers, stoners in their late 30s who still live with their parents, parents having a wee little break from life (my category) and old hippies trying to re-live their younger years. (No disrespect to any of these groups, just explaining the extreme differences) This brought a real interesting feel to the festival and it was especially fun people watch during the day!

I struggled with knowing if this Music Festival was a good idea for me to go to.
A part of me thought Yes, of course you should go! You work so hard and deserve this. The other part of me (the negative, self-deprecating side of me) thought No Way! You are being selfish and a brat! You can’t leave your husband for 3 nights and 4 days to technically go party.
The Yes side of me won! I decided to focus on living my truth. Once my husband reassured me he was totally fine with me going I was ready to go! And here are my main reasons for why it was such a good idea:
- A break from everyday life is healthy and I believe it is a requirement. (make sure your partner gets the same treatment) Letting loose and feeling like a kid again is so refreshing!!
- I got to meet new and exciting people. I learned new things about how people live and was able to become even more open minded.
- The music was amazing! I will admit during the day I rested at the camp and walked around the vendor tents. But at night there was some killer bands! Bands that I loved were Chet Faker, Slow Magic, Cherub, and Odesza.
- Camping in Nature is cleansing! Well, not literally, I got very dirty and pretty sure smelled really ripe by the time I got home. It was cleansing for my soul/spirit. I know that sounds super cheesy but it’s true! I was able to breathe deeper and feel gratitude for the beauty I was surrounded by.
- I created lasting memories with friends that made us stronger and I made a few new friends that I hope to stay connected to.
- I was able to really appreciate my life back home. I missed my hubby and kids a lot by the end. When I got home I felt I was in better spirits and happy to be with them. The saying ‘absence makes the heart grow fonder..’ is true!
The Bonanza Campout Music Festival was a total hit and I was so so happy that I went. I am also stoked that our summer is jam packed with camping, hiking, road trips, and water parks!
Now it’s your turn to go take a much needed break and have a fucking blast this summer, with and without your family.
Namaste Bitches!
